Privacy Policy

Tafelo is an app for recipes, weekly menus and cooking. We collect as little as possible. This page explains what data the app uses, where it goes and what you can choose yourself. Questions? Email privacy@tafelo.app.

On your iPhone and in your iCloud

Your recipes, photos, menus, shopping lists, cooking history, chat conversations and settings are stored on your iPhone. If iCloud sync is on, they are synced through your own private iCloud (Apple CloudKit). We cannot see this data.

Smart features (recipes, photos, menus, chat)

When you use a smart feature, the app sends the content it needs to our server: for example a recipe text, a photo or link you share, your chat question, a short summary of your recipe titles, your dietary preferences, language and region. Our server forwards this to Google Gemini (Google LLC) to create the answer. The app asks for your permission before the first use.

Our server does not store this content; it is only processed to create the answer. Google processes the data under the terms of the paid Gemini API; according to those terms it is not used to train Google's models.

Credits, security and statistics

To keep track of free credits and prevent abuse, the server stores a random installation ID and monthly counters. For Premium or purchased credits it also stores the App Store transaction ID, to verify your purchase. We use Apple DeviceCheck and App Attest to check that requests come from a genuine Tafelo app.

IP addresses are only used briefly in memory to block excessive requests and are not stored. We keep general daily figures (number of requests, errors, costs) and, per anonymous installation ID, the first and last day of use; we keep these for up to 400 days.

Choose together (polls)

When you create a poll, the dishes in it are stored on our server. People who vote can enter a name if they want (optional); a cookie makes sure each browser votes once. Polls close after 3 days and are deleted after 14 days.

Photos from Unsplash and Pexels

When you search for a photo, the name of the dish (translated to English) is sent via our server to Unsplash or Pexels. The chosen photo is loaded directly from their servers, so they see your IP address. The photographer is credited.

Weather

With your permission, the app uses your approximate location (about one kilometre) to get today's weather from Apple Weather. Your location is not sent to our server; only a short description of the weather may be included with the daily suggestions.

Reminders

Shopping lists are added to Apple Reminders on your iPhone, only with your permission.

Advertising (free version)

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. In the EU and UK the app first asks for your consent using Google's consent form; without consent, ads are not personalised. Google may collect device and advertising data; see Google's privacy policy. The app does not ask for permission to track you across other apps. Tafelo Premium has no ads.

Purchases

Subscriptions and credits are handled by Apple. We do not receive any payment details.

Your choices and rights

You can erase everything on your device via Profile → Privacy & Data → Erase All Data, turn off iCloud sync, or delete the app. You can withdraw permission for smart features, location, Reminders and ads at any time in the app or in your iPhone's Settings.

You have the right to access, correct and delete data about you. Because the server only holds anonymous data, we cannot always identify you; email us at privacy@tafelo.app and we will help as best we can. You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page with the date at the top.
